Hi! My name is Julie Ullestad. I teach 5th grade math and social studies at South Hamilton in Jewell, Iowa. I am really excited about this year! South Hamilton Elementary is a 1:1 school Kindergarten through 6th grade, every student will have their own computer to use for the school year! These computers will stay at school; but students will have access to the same computer throughout the day! This will be a big learning year for me, as I learn more ideas for the students to do and try to implement more technology in the classroom.
A little bit about myself. I was born and raised in the Jewell area and graduated from South Hamilton High School, received my BA in Elementary Education from Simpson College in Indianola, Iowa and my Masters of Education - Elementary with an emphasis in Middle School from Viterbo University in LaCrosse, Wisconsin. I am beginning my 31st year of teaching, 28 of which have been at South Hamilton. During those years, I have taught 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th grades in Harlingen, Texas; Colorado Springs, Colorado; Phoenix, Arizona; Toltec, Arizona and South Hamilton in Jewell, Iowa. The majority of my teaching experience, 28 years, has been at South Hamilton teaching 5th grade math.
My husband, Mark, is from Radcliffe, Iowa and attended the University of Northern Iowa. We have a daughter, who is attending Grad School at the University of Missouri, a son who is a senior at the University of Missouri, and another son who is in twelfth grade at South Hamilton. We enjoy traveling as a family, sports and doing various activities outside, including spending time on Little Wall Lake.
